Modern Principles of Behaviour-Informed Dog Grooming

The shift groomers are making

The grooming industry is changing. The best groomers are no longer just technically skilled. They understand behaviour, they read stress early, and they make decisions based on what the dog needs, not just what the schedule demands.

Behaviour-informed grooming is not a trend. It's a better way to work. Safer for the dog. Safer for you. And better for your business long-term.

The full picture.

Modern Principles of Behaviour-Informed Dog Grooming takes you through the full picture, from the science of how dogs learn and communicate, to what to do in real grooming situations when things get difficult.

Eight sections. Dozens of lessons. Real video examples. A framework you'll use every single groom.

Every groomer loves dogs. But do we know how they're feeling?

Nat and Kath Anderson, behaviour specialist and founder of K9 Kudos, to talk about the gap at the heart of grooming education. We learn the skill. We perfect the technique. But understanding how a dog feels throughout the grooming process? That's the piece most of us were never taught.

New and trainee groomers

Build the right foundations from the start. Understanding behaviour early in your career means better outcomes for the dogs you work with, and fewer difficult situations as your experience grows.

Experienced groomers

You already have the technical skills. This course gives you the framework to understand why some dogs struggle, and what to do about it. Many experienced groomers tell us this is the course that changes everything.

Grooming assistants and support staff

Everyone who handles a dog has an impact on how that dog experiences grooming. This course is just as relevant for the people supporting the groom as it is for the groomer holding the scissors.

Is this course for you?

A dog you've been grooming for two years is suddenly escalating earlier at every appointment. It used to be manageable. Now it's not.
Do you know why that might be happening? Do you know how to approach the next appointment differently?

Is this course for you?

A dog arrives at your salon panting, scanning the room, and pulling toward the door. You lift it onto the table and it freezes.
Do you know what that freeze is telling you? Do you know what to do next?

Is this course for you?

A dog repeatedly turns its head away and licks its lips while you're scissoring its face. The owner says it's usually fine.
Do you know what the dog is communicating? Do you know what the risk is if you keep going?

Is this course for you?

If you answered yes to all of these, you're already thinking like a behaviour-informed groomer.
If some of these gave you pause, this course will change how you work.

THE MISSING PIECE

Ready to groom differently?

Within the grooming community, we tend to focus on the mechanics. Coat care, breed-standard trims, scissoring skills, new styles, new equipment, new techniques. These skills are vital. They reflect our professionalism and our dedication to high quality grooms.

But what about the dog?

Isn't it equally important to understand what motivates dogs to behave the way they do, and how a dog feels throughout the grooming process?

As professionals working with dogs, we need to understand the emotional and behavioural experience of our canine clients.

What they're communicating through their body language, how previous experiences influence their comfort level, and how our own actions shape their responses.

When we understand how dogs learn, what triggers stress or fear, and how to use positive reinforcement to build trust, we're not just grooming better. We're creating a safer, more positive experience for everyone involved.

In this course we'll bust a few myths, share up-to-date science-backed information, and look at how this knowledge can make a real difference to you and the dog in front of you.
Every groomer. Every level. One course that changes how you work.
